Pēnghú 澎湖

The City

Rather than being one individual place, Penghu is an archipelago – a group of islands – in Taiwan.

What to see

Visit the Tongliang Great Banyan and see the massive, 200-year-old tree that forms a canopy over Bao’an Temple’s courtyard. It looks as if it’s made out of several individual trees, but is in fact one giant, sprawling tree.

Go to Qimei island to see the iconic Twin Heart Stone Weir, and check out geological wonders like the Basalt Columns, Whale Cave and whistling Fenggui Blowholes.

What to do

Be sure to go island-hopping while in Penghu to get a full appreciation of the archipelago. The islands are divided into North Penghu, the main island and South Penghu. And don’t forget to relax on one of the beautiful beaches!

What to eat

Since you’re so close to the sea, the freshest seafood you can get is a must – oysters, squid and abalone are very popular with the locals. If you have a sweet tooth, enjoy some spongy brown sugar cake, refreshing shaved ice or pink cactus ice cream. And don’t forget Taiwan’s signature drink: bubble tea.

Did You Know?

You can cross two of Penghu’s islands by foot: Penghu Great Bridge spans across Baisha Main Island and Xiyu island. It’s also East Asia’s first deep ocean bridge.

Tours

Combine your one-on-one classes with exciting tours accompanied by your teacher in the Penghu islands. This is your opportunity to experience the city with a local while improving your Chinese skills.

Each tour has a five-hour duration and you can customise it as you wish, choosing where to visit and counting on your teacher’s help to decide the best itinerary for the day.
